The Creative Practice Camp

Some of the most impactful experiences of my life have been attending drum camps. The sense of community, the opportunity to learn and share, and the personal growth I’ve experienced have always inspired me to create my own. And now, I’m thrilled to share that vision with you!
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Scottish countryside, we’ll spend three full days diving into what I love most—practice. You’ll discover my unique practice systems and methods, and learn how they work together to create a well-rounded routine that will help you become a more expressive and creative drummer.
To keep things intimate and impactful, each camp is limited to just 10 participants. This ensures everyone gets personal, 1-on-1 time with me, while also enjoying group sessions where you can share ideas, play, and build lifelong friendships with fellow drummers.
The Creative Practice Camp will focus on practice and cover topics such as
- Developing a holistic, complete practice routine that grows with you
- Practice mindsets and advanced practice techniques
- How to practice grooves, fills and solos
- Improvisation
- Planning your practice
- Much much more

How long are the camps?
Each camp lasts three days. The day starts at 9.30am and runs until 6pm, with a break for lunch and refreshments.
How much are the camps?
The camp is £450, and a £100 deposit is required to secure your space. The remaining balance is due 45 days before the start of the camp.

Where is it?
Camps take place in the picturesque Scottish village of Ratho. Peaceful, serene and right next to Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, it is the perfect setting for my camps.
How do I get there?
You can easily get to the camps by plane, train or automobiles!
Edinburgh Airport is a busy international airport which is easily accessible from anywhere in the world and only a short taxi ride away from the camp.
You can also get into Edinburgh by train and then tram out to the camps.
There is plenty of parking available should you choose to drive.
For more travel questions then please email camps@davemajormusic.com
Where can I stay?
You are spoiled for choice of accommodation for the camps. There are plenty of options both within the village or very nearby
My recommendations are –
The Bridge Inn – Traditional Scottish accommodation, award-winning food and drink and a 5-minute walk from the camp.
The Lost Shore – Europe’s largest indoor surfing centre with a large selection of 1 to 4 bed lodges available (perfect to share with other campers). A short walk to the camp and perfect if you want a spot of surfing with your drumming!
There is also a large selection of airport hotels available. These include Travelodge Ratho Station, Hilton Edinburgh Airport, Moxy Edinburgh Airport.
If you need any help finding accommodation or travel arrangements then just get in touch – camps@davemajormusic.com

What does a camp look like?
Each camp lasts 3 days, with educational sessions running from 10am to 6pm. We meet at 9.30am for warmups and to get ourselves ready for the day!
While the focus of the camp is on drumming, there will be plenty of time for you and your fellow campers to practice the material, relax, and enjoy the refreshments and snacks provided throughout the day.
Weather permitting (it is Scotland after all!), we will enjoy the outdoors and clear our minds with country walks. Each camper will have the chance to play on one of the two Sonor acoustic kits, and practice kits will be available for solo work.
We’ll be supporting one another, with plenty of opportunities for playing, asking questions, and having fun! Some camps will also feature evening events such as roundtable discussions, hangouts, and performances (though not all camps will include these). There’s also a welcome meal the evening before the camp begins.
All evening events (except the welcome meal) are optional but highly encouraged!
What is taught on the camp?
As the name suggests, The Creative Practice Camp is focussed on Practice and teaching you the systems, concepts and techniques that will transform your practice and drumming forever.
We will cover topics such as planning your practice from long term to short term, the mindset of practice and advanced practice techniques you can use to maximise your progress.
Each day will focus on one part of my Stage 1/2/3 practice system. Within each day, we will work on grooves, fills and practice concepts and leave plenty of time to answer your questions.Throughout the day, there will be plenty of time to practice the material on your own and together with other campers.
Will I get to play during the camp?
ABSOLUTELY! This isn’t a sit and watch camp! It is very interactive and you will get the chance to practice material on your own throughout the day as well play the acoustic kits with me or another camper.
What level do I need to be to attend a camp?
While the material covered in each camp is designed to be relevant for drummers of all levels, I recommend being at least an intermediate player (wherever that is!!) A basic understanding of subdivisions, metronome work, and rudiments will be helpful (though don’t worry about being a master!). Some experience with different feels and styles will also be beneficial.
All the material taught applies to any level, and I will work with where you are and guide you to the next level of your drumming. If you’re unsure about your level, feel free to reach out to me at camps@davemajormusic.com, and I’d be happy to help!
What do I need to bring?
I recommend bringing some sticks, ear plugs (drums can be loud!!) or over the ear headphones. Everything else you need is provided.
Each camper gets a mini practice kit with a throne, music stands and everything you need. There are 2 acoustic kits and a couple of practice kits for solo practice sessions. Are there any other camps available?
To start I want to focus on making the best camp I can but I do have ideas for future camps on different topics and will then offer each camp every year. To keep up to date you can keep an eye on my social media or join my mailing list.
